This exquisite intricate carving in Ivory dates back to the mid 1860's. This has been a part of the personal altar of two Burmese Buddhist Monks for over 140 years. It is now available for sale to sponsor repairs to a Buddhist temple in Burma. This is a carving of Buddha in a double teaching mudra with halo; along with four Siddhas or devotees, two on either side of Buddha. Buddha stands on a double lotus or viswapadmasana representing spiritual purity, and above the head of Buddha is Chhepu a sky god of protection. Chhepu is usually found atop the main entrance of shrines and temples for the protection of all who enter.

This carving is in ivory from the front end of a ivory tusk. The Carving is 7" high and 4" wide at the bottom. It comes with a beautiful rosewood stand. The perfect piece for a shrine, altar or curio of antiques. This piece may be seen by appointment only at The Happy Heart in Piedmont, CA.
